Kilauea - Lighthouse

This evening we had to change plans because of the weather.   It was raining making the hike to Queens Bath too dangerous.  We decided to go see the Lighthouse instead.  I am happy that we did as it was my plan to go there to see it.  There was lots of different birds flying around as well.  It turned out to be a nice evening.

We saw these birds nesting.  They were so cool.  These are called Red Footed Boobies.  I think Ralph would have really liked these :-)

Morning sunrise and Ho'opi'i Falls

This morning I almost slept in.  I had 10 minutes to get myself ready.  I was in a bit of a rush.  At the beach first thing this morning my camera almost got knocked over by a rogue wave.  Sadly Ralph's intervalometer ended up in the water and got pretty wet.  My first casualty of the week.

It was a beautiful morning.

Later in the morning we headed off to Ho'opi'i Falls.  It was so pretty and fun to photograph.

Waimeia Canyon, Surfing and Sunset cruise

Today we were up early (4:00 a.m.) and on the road by 5:00 to see the Waimeia Canyon.  It's about a 1.5 hour drive to get there.  The canyon is massive and quite something too see.

After breakfast we saw the surfers enjoying themselves.

Then we were off on our Sunset Whale Watching cruise.  It was the most amazing thing I have ever experienced.  We saw 8 breaches.

We went to Poipu to watch the sunset and see the spouting horn.  Wow!

There is not much more I can say about this except that God took a dull gray sky and painted it with His Glory and Majesty.

Helicopter tour

After our breakfast this morning we went exploring.  There is a beach by our house that we decided to check out.  It was very secluded and we determined that there wasn't really much we could use for composition but we were rewarded with seeing a monk seal.  It was so cute.

Did I tell you about the chickens on the island?  They are everywhere.  The roosters start crowing at 2:00.  One  morning we saw Than coming up the lane with about 40 chickens behind.  It was so cute.

This afternoon we went up in the helicopter.  Wow it was crazy.  What a feeling.  It was doors off, and the wind was howling and even blowing through the the cabin.  The views were amazing.  I took so many pictures.  Here are a few,

Sunrise at Kauai Shores

I woke up with a start at 6:00 a.m.  I thought I had slept in but we weren't leaving until 6:20.  The morning was cool at around 60f.  It was a good morning to work on composition.  It was a beautiful area.

This afternoon we are taking a helicopter ride around the island.

Hiking the Kalalau trail and enjoying the sunset at Ke-e Beach

After an amazing lunch  by our chef Than, we headed to the Napali coast for a hike along Kalalau trail.  I had been stressing about this walk for some time now as it was steep and rocky.  Claudia had supplied me with an energy drink which I took along with multiple Vitamin B12 pills.  I was pumped and ready to go.  The trail was steep, slippery in spots and very rocky.  I took a deep breath and started up the incline.  It took us about 30-40 minutes to walk 1/2 mile.  That's how challenging it was but it was certainly worth the energy exerted.

Later in the day we photographed the sunset at Ke'e beach.  It was amazing.
