The Granddaddy course

Today, we played Pine Lakes which is the oldest course in Myrtle Beach. It was developed in 1927 and is a favorite of the locals.  It was a nice course, although we enjoyed Founders Club more.

The day was beautiful with really warm temperatures.  The humidity was quite high as well.  So far this has been the warmest week that we have experienced since coming down to golf.

Teresa was today's winner.  The competition today was "Protect your ball" and she was able to keep it safe until the 11th hole.  Not surprising - I lost my ball on the 1st hole although my driving has been good.  I simply had a bad bounce and off it went into the pond.  Ralph sadly lost his ball as well on the 1st hole.  It had gone straight but was nowhere to be found.  We suspect that it got plugged somewhere in the soft soil.  That is something that we all noticed today was how wet the course was. Lawrence almost lost his ball on a par 3 experiencing the same problem but Ralph was able to find it for him.

This afternoon was spent quietly relaxing.  Ralph is working (as Sears had problems over the weekend) and we took advantage of the beautiful weather that we have been blessed with.

This evening we enjoyed some amazing pizza at the Mellow Mushroom and then celebrated Teresa's win.  She was the winner of the "Protect your Ball" competition.  Congratulations Teresa.

A day of rest

This year, Ralph and I are sleeping in the room at the back of the condo.  This room has no windows so it is quite dark.  As a result both Ralph and I slept later than normal and missed getting up to see the sunrise.  Oh well, it was pretty overcast and Teresa shared that she had seen lightening earlier in the morning so I suspect that there wasn't much to see.

We went to Faith Presbyterian church this morning.  We've been there several times and really enjoy listening to the Minister and always feel very welcome here.

After church we spent the afternoon walking along the beach, enjoying the ocean, relaxing and watching dolphins swim by.  We also saw plenty of fish jumping out of the water.

We even went swimming in the ocean and played in the waves.  What a perfect day!

We shared a home cooked meal and had a quiet evening.  We're golfing at Pine Lakes on Monday and the course is only about 5 minutes away from our condo so we won't feel rushed in the morning.

We enjoyed a nice dinner together at the Condo.  Afterward Ralph and I went down to the ocean and enjoyed the the sunset.

Later we did our first awards night.  Ralph was the winner of the competition on Saturday. This competition was the total score for 3 randomly selected holes.  Congratulations Ralph.

Founders Club - great pace of play

This morning when we woke up it was still lightening across the ocean.  Oh no we thought, it might rain later today.  Thankfully it stayed dry and we only felt a few drops later this afternoon. The temperature was lovely and warm.  It was 19c already at 6:00 a.m. as we were heading to breakfast.

We enjoyed a nice meal at The Sea Captains House.  This is located right beside the Condo that we stay in. They have an awesome breakfast plan for golfers which is included as part of our golfing package.

Today we played Founders Club which is located on Pawleys Island.  This course has plenty of waste bunkers surrounding each hole.  We've always wanted to golf here and this time we finally booked a round.  It was a little wet on the course as they have been having a lot of rain but otherwise it was in good shape.  The staff was very friendly and made us feel very welcome.  We were the first group to tee off and the Marshall came by twice and complimented us on our pace of play.  He shared that most groups take about 4.5 hours to complete a round.  We were done in 4 hours.

It was a good start to our week.  We all had fun and respectable rounds.

Ralph had the play of the day as he chipped the ball into the hole.  It was a pretty amazing shot.

After our round of golf, we went out for lunch and enjoyed amazing grilled cheese sandwiches.  We have gone to this place the last couple of years.  Talking about amazing comfort food.  We sat outside and enjoyed our sandwiches to the loud sounds of motorcycles.

Did I mention that it's Bike Week in Myrtle Beach!!   Thousands of Motor cycles are driving around.  Thankfully it should all be gone by tomorrow.

Once we got back to our condo, it was time to relax. With the ocean waves crashing up against the beach, the sun shining and gentle warm breeze blowing, it made for a very beautiful day.

Myrtle Beach - safe and sound

We made it safely after a four hour drive.  The weather is nice and warm with some clouds.  The day was spent doing groceries and getting settled into our condo.  We enjoyed a nice lightening display this evening over the ocean.  We're looking forward to a fun day of golf tomorrow at Founders Club and maybe a swim in the ocean.  It's very warm here and the water is awesome.  I can't wait.

Day 1 - Winston Salem

The drive today was pretty uneventful.  We had some rain in spots and saw a beautiful rainbow but otherwise things went quite well.  We were surprised to receive an alert warning of flash flooding.  As we were travelling we were just on the edge of a storm and we were able to keep ahead of it so the flooding warning came as a surprise to us.  Thankfully we didn't have any issues.

The weather is quite nice with a temperature of around 27c.  We enjoyed a tasty dinner at a restaurant called Twin Peaks although the ambiance wasn't the greatest. It reminded us of a "Hooters" but on a much larger scale.  Oh well, we know enough not to go back although the food was quite good.  The boys and Teresa were able to watch some of the Hockey game so they were happy.

We are now resting in our room.  We have about  a4 hour drive tomorrow.  I'm looking forward to dipping my toes in the ocean.,

And .....we're off

It's that time of year again where we make our annual trek down to Myrtle Beach.  We met last night and packed up Lawrence's truck and made plans to leave early this morning.

It has been a busy couple of weeks for me with work requests, so I felt a little unprepared yesterday.    I have no ideas if I gave forgotten anything.  I guess I will find out when we get there.

We were up early and on the road by 5:00.  It's going to be a great week.

Night sky

We enjoyed the last couple of days away.  It truly was an adventure for us.  The sky's were nice and dark out in Owen Sound and Tobermory.  It was so amazing to see the stars shining so brightly.

These first two pictures are from Tobermory.  The sky was much darker here.  We had some issues with clouds coming in but were still able to get some good shots.

It's really cool to see the Milkyway behind Ralph.  We were set up on a road beside a farmers field near the Bruce Trail.

On our way home we stopped at the Cobble Beach golf resort to try to take a picture near the Lighthouse.  It was just too windy.  As you can see, the cloud cover was moving in and the wind was blowing them across the sky quite quickly. The yellow lights in the background is Owen Sound.

On Friday night we went back to Cobble Beach and  took some pictures there.  You don't see the Milkyway as well because of all the light, but it was still beautiful.  It was much colder here as well because we were right beside the water.
