Reflections

Christine came home from the hospital today and is doing very well.  It's nice to have her at the house and feeling so well after the surgery.

While she was napping this afternoon I took a short drive into the country.  I stopped in Stirling to take a few pictures. I had planned on taking more, but somehow ended up taking a wrong turn and eventually ended up in Belleville.  Just my luck as I was a craving an Americano so the pictures will have to wait for another day.

I did see one bridge in Stirling and also a lovely pond with the most beautiful reflection of clouds in it.  I couldn't resist stopping to admire the view and take a few shots.

Madoc - O'Hara Mill and Homestead

Today I went to church in  Frankford  I listened to a really good sermon on the importance of praising our God.  Pastor Michael Bootsma is a very interesting man to listen to and I really enjoyed this mornings message. Three things that I want to remember is that in everything, everywhere and all the time we should be praising God regardless of what is happening.  Do we spend enough time Praising God in front of our children?  If we as parents don't sing praises to our God or tell of his greatness, why do we expect our children to love God?  What kind of example are we??

This is such a nice warm and welcoming church.  It was nice to talk to people I had met at the funeral from Ed and I really felt their love for Christine.  What a blessing for her.

Christine's doctor decided to keep her in the hospital for another day and we thought it might be best for her to have a quiet day resting.  I decided to go and explore the O'Hara Mill and Homestead Conservation area.  This is run by volunteers and is really beautiful.  It's a short drive from Frankford and since the weather was nice (not raining) I decided to go check it out.  I wasn't disappointed and I'm glad I brought my camera.  They had an old mill there and old log homes.  It's nice place for a walk.

You know when you just can't reach that itchy spot

This week, Christine had surgery and I have come to help care for the dogs while she is in the hospital.  This afternoon while visiting with Christine at the hospital, she decided to take a short nap so I used the opportunity to go down to the lake behind the hospital.  I was amazed at how high the water is and the abundance of wildlife that I saw along the shoreline.  It was so beautiful there. I could have stayed the whole day exploring.

Before driving to the hospital, I wanted to drop a photo off at the owners of a local Mill. I had stopped there earlier in the year and taken a picture with my cell phone.  I had such a nice conversation with them and have been invited back to take some photographs of their animals (lambs, chickens, goats) and see more of the Mill that is on their property.

As I was driving I stopped along the Trent Canal and photographed another old building that is right beside a dam.  The water was really flowing quickly.

Lake Ontario is really high this year and as a result the bicycle path is covered with water and can only be used by the geese and ducks right now.

I walked to this area nicknamed "Turtle Pond" and was fortunate to see a Heron on the raft that was floating in the pond.  This Heron triggered the name for my post this evening.  It was so funny watching it as it couldn't seem to find where that elusive "itch" was coming from.

I've never had a Heron stay in one place for so long.  I was able to set up a tripod and photograph it to my hearts content.

There were plenty of turtles on the raft as well.  They were really quite large and very curious.

And a trip.to the lake wouldn't be complete without seeing the swans.  I was amazed at how large the beaks are on the babies at such a young age.  They were so cute and fuzzy.

Backyard birds

Today was a quiet day where I was able to sit outside and watch the birds.  One of our birdhouses by the house has a family occupying it and it was fun to watch them going back and forth feeding the young.  I think it's time to start using a bird identification book to figure out who is living here.  There are babies in the house as well.  Ralph and I think that there is at least two.  Once in a while we see the beaks sticking out of the hole.  It's so cute.

Wouldn't it be nice if it rained bubbles?

Just asking.....
