Polar Vortex on it's way - will it make it to Myrtle beach? February 17-23, 2025

The forecast for this week

isn't promising with the temperature sitting in the lows at 0c down to -5c and up to 13c.  What a weird winter we are enjoying.  We golfed on Monday and surprisingly it warmed up enough for us to remove a few layers.  We golfed at River Oak which is just off Highway 501.  The course wasn't in the best condition and we all struggled with our putting as a result.  It was still nice to be out and enjoy being in the great outdoors.

Tuesday we golfed at Sand Piper Bay golf club in Calabash.  The course is quite lovely and we all enjoyed our rounds.  The weather did warm up enough for us to get down to 3 layers instead of 5 lol.  Better days are coming as Mom would say.  Next week we are looking forward to the girls arrival and hope to enjoy some nice days then.  I took my camera with me to the course and photographed a bit of the wildlife the we saw.

I checked the weather forecast on Wednesday morning hoping that it would start warming up. It wasn't promising for the rest of the week and there is the potential for snow.

Thankfully the following week is looking better. It will be so nice to enjoy our time outside when the girls come.

It has been interesting watching the water pipe work being done.  The temporary pier is extending quite far into the ocean. For the most part, the work on it has not really bothered us and we're curious how far it will end up going

I took two walks along the beach on Wednesday morning before the forecasted rain came. I found a few nice sharks teeth again and one of them is the largest I have found so far this year. I wonder if all the digging is unearthing g some of these teeth?

On Thursday went to Huntington for a while in the afternoon  we saw the rack and three ospreys  we didn't stay long though as it was too cold to be out holding my camera.

On Thursday evening I tried to take the dollar store hook off the wall and accidently ripped the drywall and paint off  I was mortified. I went down to the front desk and explained what I had done and a maintenance man came up to have a look. He was really good about it and suggested we just cover the rip with a new hook.  Ralph hung a new one and it works perfect give us plenty of hanging for when the girls come.

On Friday we were suppose to golf but decided to cancel due to the weather and chose to see the Eagles instead.  Just as we arrived they were getting amorous. I wonder if they plan to lay another egg once the eaglet fledges?   For the most part the eagles weren't that active so we headed to Ocean Isle to see if we  could find the other nest. We weren't successful.

In preparation for the girls arrival we made some breakfast burritos (Jordan's request).

Cold, cold, cold - another cold front has arrived - February 10 - 16, 2025

Can you believe it??  Another cold front has arrived and it's chilly out.  Brrrr.  We all arrived at Prestwick Golf course dressed in layers.  It was cold and a little windy making it a challenge to play well.   We're troupers though and played our round.  An early evening was in order and a nice hot shower to warm up.  On Tuesday we had planned to golf again in Sunset beach with a round booked at Sea Trail -Maples course. This is right by Sunset beach near the Eagles.  The morning started off rainy and foggy and cold. It was 38f when we woke up. Brrrr.

Well as it turned out, Tuesday was a "wash" so to speak.  We all drove down to the course only to decide to cancel when we got there.  It was cold and rainy and just not worth spending the money on a round that you knew you wouldn't enjoy.  Everyone went their separate ways with Ralph and I driving to catch a glimpse of the eagles (5 minutes away) and Lawrence and Teresa joined us there as well.  They didn't stay long as it wasn't comfortable standing outside (even though the rain had stopped).  We hung around till 11:00 and then slowly headed back to the condo.  Prior to driving to the course this morning we stopped at the Thrift Store in town and picked up 5 more cake plates from Bobby Flay.  We really like the design of these and thought they would come in handy when entertaining.

On Wednesday we enjoyed a visit to Huntington Beach. It was nice to see that a few more birds were there. We enjoyed watching the Great Egret catching small fish and also the Heron catching the larger fish. It as so cool to see. It was also nice to see the eagle do a fly by.  This is the first time this year that we have seen this.  Very exciting.

The weather wasn't so nice on Thursday so we stayed in and enjoyed our books.    Friday we golfed at Oyster Bay even though it was really cold.   I had 5 layers on to stay warm and but it was still was fun.  We stayed for a short while to watch the eagles but because the temperature and wind were so cold we didn't stay long .

Since we were back early at the condo I enjoyed photographing some of the waves as the ocean was pretty rough.  I would love to capture a way where you can see into the tunnel.  One day....

We enjoyed some Presidents day shopping on Saturday and went back to see the eagles later in the afternoon.  They weren't that active so we enjoyed a nice visit with Rick and after he left we followed suit.

Sunday was a foggy morning and rainy  it finally cleared up in the afternoon so I went for a walk on the beach and looked for sharks teeth  I got lucky and found d about 30 of them.    It must have been because the ocean was so rough that they were being washed up on shore.

It was a fun week but I sure wish it would warm up and still a little dryer.
