Today Janette and I walked along the path. It was just the two of us. At the church we saw a little garden snake. I'm not sure how she does it, but she had no problem picking it up. It was enjoying the sun and warm soil beside the parking lot. It was a beautiful and windy walk.
Ralph and Grace have been happily married for 45 years and currently reside in Dutton, Ontario. We have a beautiful daughter Laura who is married to Jason Van Meppelenscheppink. Jason and Laura have three beautiful children (Jordan, Hailey and Brody) and they currently live in St. Thomas. This blog is about our lives and how richly we have been blessed.

Nature along the way

Hosta Division
Don't you just love spring... walking through my garden today got me thinking that it's the right time to start splitting my Hosta's. So, I took a few minutes to re-aquaint myself on the process to follow.
PROPAGATION AND DIVISION Hostas do not come true when started from seed. They can be divided anytime but the best time is early in the spring when the shoots are emerging from the soil. Dig up the entire clump, wash off the excess earth from the roots and using a sharp heavy knife cut between the shoots to divide. You can either cut in half or take off single shoots with roots attached. If you need to divide later in the season dig up the clump, just before dark is best, cut off the leaves to 6 inches from the bottom and divide. Always make sure your newly planted hostas get proper watering. Divide hostas only if you want more hostas. If you think your hosta is too big it is because you have not allowed enough room for growth. When you divide a hosta you lose its maturity so be prepared to wait for full growth potential again. Dividing and using the same variety of hosta is good for mass plantings but to divide the same variety of hosta just to fill a garden is losing the excitement and wonderful diversity of size and colour that hostas produce. Until you've seen a hosta garden with 100-200 different varieties of hostas you will not fully understand the addictive world- wide love that people have for hostas.
Dinner with Dad and Mom
Last night we enjoyed a nice evening with Dad and Mom. We went out for dinner all together and then came back to their apartment in Tolendale. We really enjoy these times together. It was a nice evening all together.
Ladies League
On Sunday during coffee at church a few of us talked about the possibility of golfing on Tuesday. We weren't sure as the weather was not promising but we said that "if" it looked ok, we'd give it a try. Phone calls were made, emails exchanged during the day on Tuesday and we all agreed that we were up for giving it a go, at least for 9 holes. The weather didn't look promising, but we all have rain gear and it was cold but you can always dress for the cold. We met at the parking lot around 4:30 and were the only ones there. That gave us all a laugh - it was a repeat of the beginning of last years golf season. We asked it it was ok for us to go out golfing and the course gave us the go ahead. We could golf whichever course we wanted so we opted for the West Course. Dressed in warm clothese, rain proof jackets and rain gloves and hats, we headed out. While golfing it rained, snowed, the sun came out, we had blue sky and we had sleet. A little bit of everything. It was cold, that was the one thing we all commented on and the difficulty in keeping our hands warm. It was "FUN" to be out with the ladies. We missed our friend Claudia, who is enjoying the sunny and warm south right now. We played "9" holes, and look forward to a fun season with the 5 of us.
